Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Philip L. “Phil” McComiskey, III, 54, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 in his home in West Gloucester.
Born in Gloucester on May 19, 1956, he was the son of Philip L., Jr., and Madalene (Burns) McComiskey. A lifelong resident, he was a member of the Boy Scout Troop 60 and was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1975.
His first job was baking bread at the former Critchett Bakery on Essex Avenue. He was also a great clammer and could dig with the best of them.
He owned and operated “The Woodworks” shop in Rockport during the mid seventies. He was an extremely creative artist and very talented at woodworking. From 1971 to present he was employed by the family businesses of Rowley Ready Mix and Gloucester Transit Mix. He loved working at the plant and was well known to all.
A member of the St. Peter’s dart team, Phil was an amazing and highly recognized dart player, winning many trophies. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the Sunday Morning Chargers golf team. He was known for the wonderful Halloween parties he threw for people of all ages to enjoy. Phil was known to answer the phone with a humorous greeting and he loved entertaining children with his made up games and the chance of winning $1.00. Phil loved his home and yard and was always active, never wanting to waste a day.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiancée, Marcella Walsh; two sons, Andrew Lloyd McComiskey and Shawn Tyler McComiskey, of whom he was very proud and their mother, Marylou (Mitchell) McComiskey; stepmother, Judith (Woodman) McComiskey; siblings, Faye, wife of Thomas Sarofeen, Robert, husband of Deborah (Bacon) McComiskey and twin sister Pauline, wife of Glen Bresnahan; special auntie and uncle, Barbara and Robert Herrick; aunts, Corrine Burns and Lois Serrin; his former father-in-law, Louis M. Mitchell; his beloved dog Chloe, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his paternal grandparents, P. Lloyd, Sr. and Evelyn (Brown) McComiskey; and maternal grandparents, John J. and Anna (Mellow) Burns.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21st in the West Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church, 488 Essex Avenue, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main Street, Gloucester.
