Obituary

Ann Dalton Williams McAuliffe, who for twenty-eight years served eight Stamford Mayors as Administrative Assistant in the Mayor's Office, passed away on May 12th, 2011, in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. Ann, a forty-two year resident of Shippan who recently resided in Springfield, Massachusetts, was the daughter of Ralph "Nippy" and Aurelia Williams and brother to Ralph "Nippy" Williams Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-two years James P. McAuliffe, also formerly of Stamford and a current resident of Springfield, Massachusetts. Ann was born in Stamford on September 10, 1926 and was a graduate of Stamford High School and the Katherine Gibbs School of New York. She loved music and embarked on an active local singing career in community churches, which led her to Summer Stock Theater in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and New York City where her venues included Radio City Music Hall and The Roxy. Prior to the Mayor's Office Ann's professional career in Stamford included positions at Machlett Laboratories and Northrop & Johnson Yacht Brokers. Ann was actively involved in the Stamford YWCA serving as its President and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Oak Street Center After School Program. Ann is also survived by her son Douglas J. McAuliffe and his wife Ingrid both of Great Falls, Virginia and Chatham, Massachusetts and daughter Anne D. McAuliffe Grace and her husband Dr. Kevin Grace both of West Brookfield, Massachusetts. Ann had four grandchildren, Madlyn, Chloe, Connor and Ryley McAuliffe. Ann will be lovingly remembered in a service to be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Stamford on the morning of June 23rd at 10:00, followed by a graveside service at St. Johns Cemetery and a reception at the Knight of Columbus in Stamford.
