Mrs. Sophia C. (Alexion) Costa, 91, a resident of Lawrence passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on Tuesday, May 17th, 2011 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
Sophia was born on December 11th, 1919 in Haverhill, Massachusetts to the late John and Coula (Tseggounis) Alexion. She was an avid reader. Enjoyed traveling especially to Foxwoods and Atlantic City. Sophia was an attendant of Sts. Constantine and Helen Church and a member of the Philoptocos Society. She remained active both mentally and physically by spending time with her family and friends.
Sophia worked as a waitress and mender for many years after retiring at 62 years she went back to work for the City of Lawrence as a Paraprofessional, working with special needs children in the public schools.
She is predeceased by her husband Eddie Costa of Lawrence, Massachusetts, who passed away on April 11, 2010 and her brother Charles Alexion of Manchester, New Hampshire who passed away on June 2009.
Sophia leaves behind her daughter Lynndiane Costa of Lawrence, MA and her daughters friend Melissa Morasse of Wilmington, MA., of whom she considered as another daughter. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
