James V. Lyons, of Medford, died Monday at the Kaplan Family Hospice after a long illness. He was 55.
Born and raised in Medford, Jim was the son of the late Thomas C. and the late Pauline (Doddis) Lyons. Jim graduated from Medford High in 1973 and later earned a degree in Business and Political Science from Boston State College in 1977. Jim went on to work as the Director of Consumer Affairs in the City of Medford and later as an inspector for the city’s Board of Health. In his younger years Jim was a competitive weight lifter. He won awards and titles in competition locally, in the region and nationally. He was the Champion at the US Open Bench Press event, pressing 525 pounds.
The loving father of Christine Lyons of Medford, Jim was the devoted brother of Teresa Lyons of Saugus, Thomas Lyons of North Andover and the late John Lyons. He was also a dear uncle to Stephanie Lyons and JJ Lyons.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday, May 20th from 4 thru 8 PM and again on Saturday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM concluding with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
