Obituary

BEVERLY: Mary “Mimi” Mitchell, 94, formerly of Ashton Street, died Friday, May 13, 2011 in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gloucester.
Born in Ipswich on July 21, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Savas and Demetra (Tsagane) Moutsopoulos. A lifelong resident of Beverly, she was a graduate of the Beverly High School class of 1936.
Mary taught English and music at the Higgins Middle School in Peabody for several years. She also once worked as a hairdresser in Danvers and Middleton for many years. Mary enjoyed music, playing the piano, singing in the North Shore Organ Society and loved attending the theatre. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the former Bethlehem White Shrine #5 of Salem.
She is survived by three nieces, Demetra “Diane” (Moutsopoulos) Marcos, whom she raised and her husband Leonard, Maryellen Mitchell and her husband, Joseph Ramos and Lori Mitchell all of Beverly; five nephews, James and his wife, Kim Mitchell of Middleton, Jack and his wife, Sarah Mitchell, Chris and his wife, Donna Mitchell all of Beverly, Steve and his wife, Stephanie Mitchell of Pottstown, PA, and Art Mitchell of Gloucester; thirteen great-nieces and great-nephews, Brenden, Bryce and Brooke Mitchell, Brittany Morgan, Melanie Nicholson, Jennifer Marcos, Heather Hersey, and Nicole Whitmore, Jasmin, Jake, Jimmy and Kory Mitchell, Dr. Scott Mitchell, Amy George, Mandy Mitchell, Rob Mitchell and Gregory Mitchell; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Mitchell of Beverly and Kathrine Moutsopoulos of Quincy; two cousins, Alice, wife of Chris Nahatis of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Penelope Gould of Old Greenwich, CT, and several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Mitchell and Nicholas Moutsopoulos, and nephew, Sammy Moutsopoulos.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday morning in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Blind.
