TEWKSBURY - Mabel L. (Stacey) Dewing, age 91, a prominent member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church, died Tuesday morning, May 17, at Tewksbury Hospital after a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Philo R. Dewing, who died in 1982.
Mabel was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, on October 14, 1919, a daughter of the late Dan William Henry and Louise (Wilson) Stacey. She emigrated with her family to Massachusetts when she was seven, and became a citizen of the U.S. at the age of twenty one.
She was an active member of Tewksbury Congregational Church, was elected as a Life-Member Deaconess, and was also a member of the Ladies Aid at the church.
She will be long remembered for her love of her family, church and community.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Sala and her spouse Jeffrey Wilder of Tewksbury; a sister, Frances M. Chadwick and her husband Richard of Pelham, NH; seven grandchildren, Tiffani Abbott and her husband Scott of Tewksbury, Tony Sala and his girlfriend Sarah Valerio of Tewksbury; Lee Steele of Lowell, Jeffrey Dewing of Dracut, Daniel Dewing and his wife Lori of VT, Shirar Patterson and her husband Ryan of ME, Jeffrey Wilder Jr. and his wife Tasha of Watertown; five great grandchildren, Samantha and Alex, Alexis, Andrew and Jack; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two children, Bruce R. Dewing and Sandra L. White; and three siblings, William Stacey, Elizabeth Rix, and Herbert Stacey.
Her Funeral Service was held Friday, May 20, in the Tewksbury Congregational Church Tewksbury Center. Following cremation, interment will be in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Tewksbury Hospital, E-2, 365 East St. Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.
