John M. Connolly age 91 of Brockton died Sunday May 15, 2011 at the Goddard Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a illness. He was the devoted husband for 57 years of the late Margaret T. (Murphy) Connolly. John was born in Brockton, a son of the late John P. and Mary (Mathson) Connolly and had been a lifelong resident. Following graduation from Brockton High School in 1937 he was employed by the former Brockton Edison Company until entering the US Army. He served in the Headquarter Battery of the 763rd FA Battalion in Europe during WWII. Following his military service he rejoined Brockton Edison as a lineman until his retirement as a crew chief in 1983.
John had been a longtime communicant of St. Edward Church where he had been active for many years as a bingo caller. He enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Lake Worth, Florida with his wife.
He is survived by a daughter Claire Frasca and her husband Peter of Scituate, four sons John P. Connolly and his wife Loretta of Carlisle, PA, James F. Connolly and his wife Deborah of Brockton, Joseph E. Connolly and his wife Sonia of Assonet and Kevin M. Connolly and his wife Tracey of Canton; 11 grandchildren Sheila Taylor, Shawn Connolly, Jonathan Frasca, Sarah Frasca, Gina McKeehan, Gregory Connolly, Christina Connolly, Matthew Connolly, Aaron Connolly, Bryant Connolly and Nicholas Connolly; a great granddaughter Charlotte Taylor and sister in law Ruthe Connolly of Bourne. He was the brother of the late William “Bud” Connolly.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday 5-8pm in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton. Funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30am followed by a funeral Mass at St. Edith Stein Parish at 11:30am. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45pm.
