Richard R. Palmer, 82



College Administrator; former longtime Dennis resident



CHARLTON – Richard R. Palmer, 82, of Charlton and formerly a longtime resident of Dennis, died on May 14, 2011.



He was the beloved husband of the late Jocelyn M. (Jago) Palmer for 56 years.



Born in Stanton, Minn., Mr. Palmer was the son of the late Roy and Cassie (Camic) Palmer. He received his Bachelor of Political Science degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., in 1951. He received his MBA from Northeastern University in 1966.



Mr. Palmer was an Army Private (PFC) stationed in Okinawa as part of the Army of Occupation in Japan in 1946.



Mr. Palmer served as vice president of administration and finance at Wheelock College in Boston, Goucher College in Towson, Md. and Wagner College in New York City, and as vice chancellor for finance at the University of Maryland, before retiring. He was a member of St. John’s Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Boston.



Mr. Palmer was a member of the town of Dennis Capital Outlay Committee for many years. He was a revolutionary war and history buff, an avid sailor, a fly fisherman and gardener. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed his friends.



Mr. Palmer leaves two daughters; Joy Hilton and Margo Palmer.



A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on May 20, 2011 in the James C. Nicholl, Jr. Chapel, The Overlook, 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton, Ma.
