Kenneth S. Chickering, Jr., 78, of 18 Blackmer Rd., passed away, Saturday, May 14, 2011 in St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Barbara L. (Schofield) Chickering, one daughter; Rondy L. wife of Phillip A. Langlois and two sons; Charles C. Chickering and his wife Maureen, and Russell R. Chickering and his wife Gail and one brother; Ronald M. Chickering, all of Dudley, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Ken was predeceased by one brother; Francis A. "Frank" Chickering.
He was born in Leicester, son of Kenneth S. and Helen (Lacoste) Chickering, Sr. and lived in Dudley for many years.
Ken was a graduate of Oxford High School and the former U.Mass. School of Agriculture in Stockbridge. He then served in the U.S.Navy during the Korean War.
Ken was the owner of the former Whip-O-Will Farm for 50 years and retired in 1999.
He was a member of the Dudley First Congregational Church, a former deacon and trustee of the church and served on several committes at the church, including putting on chicken barbeques.
Ken was also on the Board of Directors of the Webster Five Cent Savings Bank, Board of Directors of the Production Credit Assoc., a member of the United Co-Operative Farmers for many years, SPEEDOME and was well known as an international breeder of pigeons. He also was a former Boy Scout leader and Cub Scout leader. and a former Sea Scout Group leader.
Calling Hours will be Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 5 to 8 PM at the Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St., Webster.
The Funeral Service for Ken will be Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 10 AM at the Dudley First Congregational Church, 135 Center Rd., in Dudley with Full Military Honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council. Burial will be Private in Waldron Cemetery.
