Obituary

Odessa Elsie Simmons Brady, 83, of 1069 Forest Road Westfield, North Carolina left this “stay place” as she called it, on earth and went to her heavenly home, Tuesday, May 10, 2011.
She was born on September 23, 1927, the eighth of thirteen children, to William “Nomie” and Dollie Ann Ziglar Simmons. She was a member of Simmons Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, where she served as Treasurer for over 50 years.
Her life spoke for itself because she lived every minute of it loving and trusting in God and always putting family first. She touched many lives whether it was from her many words of wisdom or through a bowl of her pinto beans and a slice of cornbread.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Erastus, Tom, Jack , Columbus “Lum”, and Gaylon Simmons, sisters; Lois Taylor, Nina Martin, Norma Ann McDaniels, and Doretha Smith; brother-in-laws, J.D. Hughes, Bernie Taylor, Clyde Martin, Irea Smith, and Elder Jerry Valentine; and sister-in-laws, Claudia, Katherine Warnell, Irene, and Louise Simmons
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 62 years, Elder Robert J. Brady of the home; one son, Donald Gray Brady of Pinnacle, North Carolina; two daughters, Vinnie Leona Brady of Mt. Airy, NC and Pamela Elizabeth Brady of Winston-Salem, NC; a grandson, Donald Bradley “BB” (Veronica) Brady of Mt. Airy, NC, two granddaughters, Pamela Nicole Brady of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and N’Kenya-Sara Elizabeth Brady of Winston-Salem, NC; one great-granddaughter, Mia Semone Brady of Mt. Airy, NC; one brother, William Maston Simmons of Westfield, NC, two sisters, Catherine Valentine of Mt. Airy, NC and Maxine Hughes of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; three sister-in- laws, Inez Simmons of Mt. Airy, NC, Ann (Daniel) Orrell and Sally Edwards both of Greensboro, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Simmons Chapel Primitive Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. the service will be officiating by Elder Carl Morgan and the Elder Robert J. Brady will be delivering the Eulogy with interment will follow at Simmons Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Simmons Chapel Primitive Baptist Church from 12:30 till 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Building fund Simmons Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Cliffton Jessup, 332 Greentown Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 and the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 27985, Raleigh, NC 27611.
