Laura Hughes Dalton, 83, of 756 Arlington Road, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Halifax County on August 20, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Wesley James Hughes and Martha Kates Hughes.
She was married to Willie Edward Dalton who predeceased her. She was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church
where she sang in the choir; she loved music; she was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class and the
Golden Rule Circle. She was a long time employee of Dan River, Inc. and upon retirement, she worked as a cook at at
Glenwood School Cafeteria.
Mrs. Dalton is survived by three daughters, Sheila Dalton Hodnett of Keeling, Wanda Dalton McClain and Patricia Ann Dalton,
both of Danville. Also, one sister, Nancy H. James of Phoenix, Arizona, one grandchild, Amy Hodnett Moore of Keeling, and
three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Madison and Katie Mae Moore. Other survivors include numerous nieces
and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Claude F. Hughes, and one sister,
Peggy Ann Hughes.
Graveside services for Mrs. Dalton will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Ingram Christian Church Cemetery, which
is located on 360 between Keeling and Halifax, with the Rev. Averette Witcher officiating. The family will receive friends from 11;00 to 12:00 noon
at Barker Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 14, 2011 prior to the service . At other times, they will be at the residence, 756 Arlington Road.
