Obituary

Pallab Banerjee --- of Roslindale May 10, 2011. Beloved husband of Sucharita Sen Banerjee. Loving and devoted father of Selina Banerjee.
Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, May 15th from 1:00 – 4:00pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Dr. Banerjee did his PhD at University of Calcutta, India and came to Department
of Material Science, MIT as a post doctoral fellow and subsequently joined as an
assistant professor at University of Massachusetts Medical school in 2005-2006.
While at Dana Farber, he was an Instructor at the Department of Medicine,
Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Banerjee was a senior investigator in Pediatric Oncology at Dana Farber
Cancer Institute where he focused on molecular imaging. Trained in the field of
polymer Science, Banerjee offered a fresh perception to his work at the
laboratory of Dr. Andrew Kung, MD, PhD. He could think outside the box in his
approach. Recently he was intensely involved in the very difficult task of
developing imaging approaches to assess cell death, a problem that has vexed
people for years.

Although he was a dedicated scientist, he was equally dedicated to his role as a
husband and father. He and his wife, Sucharita SenBanerjee, PhD, a biological
researcher in the division of gastroenterology at Brigham and Women’s hospital
and a HMS Instructor, lived in Roslindale. Their daughter Selina is 10 yrs old
and already a success in her own right as an outstanding student, singer,
swimmer and published book author.

He will be missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. His untimely,
unexpected sudden death is also a great loss to the scientific world.
