Obituary

WORCESTER-John J. Pagonis, 87, of Worcester died Tuesday, May 10th in his home surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 58 years, Georgia T. (Makris) Pagonis died in 2007. He leaves two sons, Chris J. Pagonis and Thomas A. Pagonis; a daughter, Maria Diaz; a brother, James Pagonis all of Worcester; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a son, James Pagonis; two brothers, George and Stanley Pagonis and a sister, Irene Mironda.
Mr. Pagonis was born in Worcester, the son of James and Mary (Barbaresou) Pagonis. Mr. Pagonis was a graduate of Worcester Boy’s Trade School: and had worked as a machinist and boiler fireman at Worcester City Hospital, Hobbs Manufacturing and the Dana Corporation. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Pagonis was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Senior’s Group, the Order of AHEPA, the American Legion and Forty and Eight. He enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Visiting Nurse Association for the compassionate care extended to John and his family during this difficult time.
The funeral is Friday, May 13th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, May12th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral Building Fund, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
