Mr. Joseph P. Belcastro, Sr., age 84 of Medford, formerly of Arlington died Sunday in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Lucia) Belcastro with whom he shared more than 62 years of marriage. Mr. Belcastro was born in Rome, NY, son of the late Georgio and Angelina (Corella) Belcastro. He entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He served on the LST #1029. He fought during WWII, during the battles of Leyette, Iwo Jima and the Philippines. He was a long time employee of the City of Medford and worked as a heavy Equipment Operator. He retired from the city in 1990 after serving for more than 40 years. A mason at heart, he had an unmatched love for cement. Hardly a structure exists in Medford and surrounding areas he hadn’t worked on to some extent. He and his wife loved to dance. Mr. Belcastro was a dedicated family man and loved family gatherings.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Patricia Watson of Medford, one son: Joseph P. Belcastro JR. and his wife Diane of Concord, NH, Grandchildren Sara, Tina & Lisa Watson, Fred and Kelly James. Great Grandfather of Brendan, Lillian and Gabriel James. Dear brother of Nancy LeBlanc and her husband Eugene of Medford, John Belcastro and his wife Donna of Woburn and Poncho Belcastro of Woburn. Brother of the late Samuel & Alberto Belcastro and Nora DiCrio. A funeral service will be held in the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main Street Medford on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours prior to service from 4-7 pm. Interment private.
