Joseph F Healey 46 of Danville, NH (formerly of Methuen, MA) passed away unexpectedly on Thursday May 5, 2011. Joe was born in Methuen, MA, and was the son of Joan (Assaf) Healey and the late Joseph Healey.
Joe was a graduate of Methuen High School and turned the passion for golf instilled in him by his dad, into a career as golf professional. From his beginnings at George Gelt’s Crystal Springs Golf Club and then under the tutelage of Ted Murphy at Garrison Golf Center, Joe went on to a successful career as the Director of Golf and Head Professional at a number of area golf clubs.
As a successful junior golfer, he won many titles including The Boston Globe Junior Golf Championship, two Junior Rogers Championships, and a New England Junior Title. Later in life, Joe acquired a new passion and secondary career as a basketball official. He excelled at this, working countless high school and NCAA games in all divisions. Joe truly enjoyed organizing officials for the Greater Lawrence Christmas Basketball Tournament.
What Joe found most rewarding, was the camaraderie and mentoring of aspiring young golfers and officials. He was a longstanding member of the PGA of America, The NEPGA, The National Association of Sports Officials, the CBOA, and the IAABO.
Joe was an avid Boston sports fan and was at his best with his family, providing humor and comic relief to all.
