Michael Chaffee Coen, 62, formerly of 6 Ledyard Lane, Gales Ferry, passed away Sunday at Pendleton Health Care in Mystic after a long period of declining health. Michael was born in Providence RI on November 14, 1948 to Robert and Mais Coen. Michael was the eldest of five children.
He graduated from Stonington High School in 1968 and then Michael attended the Art Institute of Boston in Boston, MA.
Michael had a lifelong love for art. He was a gifted painter and woodcarver doing both throughout his life.
Michael is survived by his mother, Mais G. Coen, formerly of Gales Ferry; two sisters and their spouses, Lee Ann and Rex Ebert of Gales Ferry and Christine and Norman Moriarty of Palm City, FL; two brothers and their spouses, Robert J. Coen and James DeSantis of Gales Ferry and Mark and Donna Coen of Gales Ferry; a nephew Brendon P. Coen of Gales Ferry and a niece Morgan T. Coen of Ledyard. Michael was predeceased by his father Robert C. Coen and nephew Todd C. Santos.
There will be no calling hours and at the family's requests the burial at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery will be private.
