LaJean Fussell Mercier, 82, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Chulio Hills Nursing Home in Rome, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Faircloth officiating. Brook Mercier and Captain Brad Mercier will deliver eulogies. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mercier was born January 19, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Lewis C. and Mildred Green Fussell. A graduate of Fitzgerald High School, she lived in Fitzgerald most of her life. She was a former employee of the Grand Theater, Fitzgerald Drive In, Ben Hill County Hospital and Dorminy Medical Center where she worked in admissions and was named as Employee of the Year in 1987. Mrs. Mercier was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law: Greg & Betty Mercier of Rome; Grandsons and their spouses: Brook & Elizma Mercier of Gainesville, FL and Captain Brad & Jennifer Mercier of Fort Bragg, NC; two great grandchildren: Allan Mercier and Ben Mercier; Sisters: Gladys Griswold and Joan & Lemuel Hall, all of Fitzgerald and several nieces and nephews including Gail Latham. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ned Mercier and a brother, L.T. Fussell.
