Marie Bernadette (Eldridge) Ryan
Age 73 of Duxbury, Massachusetts
Beloved wife of John Brendan Ryan of 52 years died peacefully at her home
surrounded by her family on Friday, May 6, 2011 after a two-year courageous
battle against pancreatic cancer. Born in 1938 in Boston, MA to Bernard
and Mary (Coyne) Eldridge. Devoted mother to Lisa Burwell and her
husband, Gerald of Santa Rosa Beach, Fl; John M. Ryan of East Bridgewater,
MA; Laurie A. Crowley and her husband, Robert of Peterborough, NH; Mariane
Duffey and her husband Thomas of Duxbury, MA; James P. Ryan and his wife
Renee of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and Mark D. Ryan and his wife Stephanie of
Santa Rosa Beach, FL. Lucky grandmother to Ryan T. Duffey; Amanda, Bobby,
Johnny and Emma Crowley; Noah, Harry and Frankie Ryan; Meghan, Patrick,
Abigal and Micah Ryan; Caleb Ryan, and Devin and Makenzie Ryan.
She graduated Mission High School, was graduated from Catherine Laboure
Nursing School in 1958, graduated Massachusetts College of Pharmacy with a
B.A. in Nursing in 1986 and received her Masters in Nursing from UMass
Boston in 1993.
Marie spent the first half of her nursing career at the Brigham & Women's
hospital in Boston for 25 years. The second half of her career was as a
school nurse at the Duxbury Public Schools. After her retirement, she and
John loved to travel to their beloved Ireland, frequent trips to Florida to
visit her children and grandchildren. While she loved to travel, she was
most at home spending time with family. She enjoyed sharing her love of
knitting, painting, skiing in New Hampshire, and writing with her
grandchildren who thought the world of her.
She will be missed by her loving family and her amazing friends. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Mission Grammar
School, 94 Saint Alphonsus St, Roxbury, MA 02120.
Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (rt. 106) in Kingston, on
Thursday, May 12th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A funeral mass will be held at
10:00 am at the Holy Family Church on Tremont Street in Duxbury, MA
Friday, May 13, 2011. Internment will be private.
