BILLERICA: Florence B. (Blackburn) Heenan, age 84, a resident of North Billerica for over 20 years, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at home.
She was the beloved wife of John P. Heenan, who passed away on July 9, 1971 and the devoted mother of Patricia A. "Pattie" Heenan, who passed away on April 15, 2001.
Born in Wilmington on February 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Blackburn and the late Edith (Wormsley) Blackburn.
Florence was raised in Wilmington and attended Wilmington schools.
Mrs. Heenan was employed as head of the laundry department at the Tewksbury Hospital, where she worked for 42 years until her retirement.
In earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her sister and mother to Georgia and Florida. In addition, Florence loved needle work especially knitting and crotchet.
She is survived by two sisters, Edith Millette of Tewksbury and Alice V. MacDonald and her husband Alexander of Salem, NH; one brother, Alfred S. "Bud" Blackburn of Spring Hill, FL; her close friends, Michelle Banacos, Priscilla Ilg, Carol Baeley and David Kelly; also many nieces and nephews.
Florence was the sister of the late Beverly Townley, formerly of Morristown, TN.
Calling hours Monday, May 9, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Tewksbury Hospital, c/o Patients Fund, 365 East St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
