Obituary

Mr. Sanford Franklin Phillips, age 93, of Pilot Mountain, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Central Continuing Care. He was born on July 15, 1917 in Surry County to the late William Idle and Addie Lou Cain Phillips. Mr. Phillips retired from Pilot Knob Park and was a member of Friendly Chapel Church. Mr. Phillips is survived by one daughter, Betty Jean Payne, of Mt. Airy; one son, Wade Franklin Phillips, of Mt. Airy; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eloise Wall, of Clemmons, Peggy Lawrence, of Baton Rouge, LA; six brothers, James Phillips, Rev. Troy Phillips, Ebbie Phillips, all of Pilot Mountain, Grover Phillips, of Cana, VA, Paul Phillips, of Lowgap, and Lonnie Phillips, of Yadkinville. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margret Estelle Phillips, his parents, one sister, Essie Norman, and one brother, Harvey Phillips; one great-grandson, Phillip Mitchell. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Cox-Needham Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Don Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Stone Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Cox-Needham Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendly Chapel Church, c/o Donna Adams, P.O. Box 425, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Central Continuing Care and to Mountain Valley Hospice.
