Dovie Champion Burke, age 106, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Yalobusha Nursing Home in Water Valley, MS. She was born in Lafayette County, MS to the late Andrew and Ida Lee Hendrick Champion. Dovie loved flowers and enjoyed doing yard work. She was a life-long member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS. Dovie worked at Big Yank where she retired after 30 years of service.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 6, 2011 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Water Valley, MS.
Dovie is survived by her daughter, Donna Rakestraw of Water Valley, MS; two sons, Kenneth Burk (Jean) of Collierville, TN and Jody Burks of Water Valley, MS; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Lee Vickery and Ethel Brassell; and one brother, Fred Champion.
