Obituary

Mary Barbara Shields, passed away on April 30th at Life Care Center of Plymouth at the age of 96. Born in W. Roxbury on August 15, 1914, daughter of the late Dennis and Ida (MacAuley) Shields. Barbara was a graduate of Girls Latin High School in Boston in 1931 and a graduate of Simmons College in 1935 with a degree in English. She is the sister of the late Amy Tracy of Newton. Barbara was a long-time resident of Manomet, since 1940. She was a Simmons College Alumnus, a faithful member of St. Bonaventure’s Parish, a member of the Bonnie Seniors, the Churchill Landing Association and the Manomet Scrabblers. Barbara was a Civil Service Proof Reader for the City of Boston for 45 years and retired in 1980. She lived through 15 U.S Presidents, was a passionate reader and a faithful dog lover. She leaves behind many long-time, loving friends. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 7th at St. Bonaventure’s Church in Plymouth at 10 AM. There are no visiting hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Bonaventure’s Fund for the Needy, P.O Box 996, Manomet, MA 02345.
