Salvatore A. Cascio a long-time Medford resident died Monday at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was 97.
Sal was born and raised in Boston’s North End, the son of the late Giuseppi and the late Philippa (Nanfria) Cascio. Sal served in the Army during World War II and was a combat veteran of the Pacific. After the war he operated Wally’s Spa in the North End and eventually settled in Medford where he worked for many years with the City’s Highway Department. Sal was a member of the VFW Post 1012 and supported various Veteran’s causes.
The beloved husband of the late Marie (DiSisto), he was a devoted father of Marie Hartigan and Eileen Cascio both of Medford. He was a dear father-in-law to the late Robert Hartigan and a loving grandfather to Marie Dilger, Melissa Hartigan, Cynthia Hartigan, Robert Hartigan, Paula Galdo and loving great-grandfather of Jackson Dilger. He was the brother of the late Frank Cascio and Frances Valvo.
