Richard L. "Dick" Parker, a resident of Sarasota, Florida and formerly of Charlestown and Wilmington, died in Chesapeake, Virginia folling a lengthy illness. He was 78 years old.
Dick was born in 1932 to the late George and Charlotte Parker. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Commerce High School in Boston in 1950. He enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1952 and served his country proudly and honorably during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1956. Dick joined the City of Cambridge Police Department in 1963 and served as a patrolman until his retirement in 1988. Dick was a former member of the Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus in Charlestown and was very active in Veterans Affairs for the Town of Wilmington.
Dick is the beloved husband of the late Rita (Donovan) Parker. He is the devoted brother of Marilyn Collins of Virginia. He is also the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours for Dick on Friday morning May 6, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by his Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
