Raymond I. “Red” Dolloff, Jr., 75, lifelong resident of Chester, NH died Sunday May 1, 2011 at his home. Red was born in Medford, MA on July 8, 1935, son of the late Raymond I. Dolloff, Sr. and Clara I. (Hicks) Dolloff. Red was a 1953 graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry and later served with the US Army during the 1950’s. He was the owner and operator of Dolloff’s Excavation in Chester for more than 50 years. Red served as Fire Chief for the Chester Fire Department for more than 30 years. He was Past President and longtime member of the NH Fire Chiefs Association. Red served as Forest Fire Warden and was instrumental in the formation of the NH Fire Academy in Concord. Red lived his life to serve the Town of Chester and its residents. He was also a member of the NH Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara L. (Sullivan) Dolloff of Chester, three brothers, Arthur Dolloff, Fred Dolloff and Robert Dolloff. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Calling hours were held on Thursday May 5, 2011 from 4 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held on Friday at 9:00am in the Chester Congregational/Baptist Church, Chester. Burial with military honors followed in Great Hill Cemetery, Chester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Red’s memory may be made to the Chester Firefighters Association, Chester Fire Department, 27 Murphy Dr., Chester, NH 03036.
