Mildred Kuykendall Hewlett, age 86, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. She was born in Yalobusha County on May 29, 1924 to the late Auester Campbell and Clara Conway Campbell.
Mildred confessed her love for Christ at an early age. She was a member of Everdale Missionary Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS where she served as an Usher and Pastor's Aide. She received a Service Award from the church for her more than 20 years of service to the Kitchen Committee. As well, she was active in fundraising for the church choir and volunteered to serve on other committees whenever she was needed.
Mildred was a skilled hairdresser in her youth who became a homemaker upon marriage. Her hobbies included fishing, singing, storytelling, spending time with her family, and most of all praising God. She also enjoyed cooking and visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home of Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 6, 2011 at Everdale M.B. Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kuykendall of Water Valley, MS; two sons, Rush Kuykendall (Dot) and Russell Kuykendall both of Water Valley, MS; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rush Kuykendall; three daughters, Mary House, Geraldine Kuykendall and Annette Kuykendall; one son, Larry Kuykendall, and a sister, Julia Carter.
