Fall River – Edward F. Shaffer, 82, of Fall River died at Charlton Memorial Hospital on January 26, 2004 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary J. (Linnan) Shaffer.
He was born in Bayonne, NJ son of the late Edward F. and Winifred V. (Brennan) Shaffer. He resided in Westport from 1970 – 1997 prior to moving to Fall River. He had been a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport and attended mass at Catholic Memorial Home, Fall River.
He was employed for 30 years as a District Manager by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of New York City, retiring in 1977. Following retirement he went on to be a legislative aide for State Representative John Long and worked for A B C Floor Covering of Westport as an office manager.
Mr. Shaffer was the first Westport Town Administrator Assistant, a member of the American Legion Post # 145, Westport and the Knights of Columbus, Westport. He enjoyed writing, bowling, playing American Legion baseball, spending time with his family and friends, was an antique bottle collector and an avid tennis player.
In addition to his widow he is survived by 5 daughters: Lynn A. Hintz of Elmira, NY, Ellen J. Sullivan of Westport, Mary C. Askeland of Dartmouth, Gretchen A. Shaffer of Little Compton, RI and Patricia J. Rodrigues of Westport; 2 sons: Edward J. Shaffer of Fonthill, Ontario, Canada and Peter J. Shaffer of Athol, MA; a sister: Ruth M. Lindemann of Lederach, PA; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Robert L. Shaffer and Winifred McKinney.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Thursday, January 29, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter & Paul Parish at Holy Cross Church, 47 Pulaski Street, Fall River.
