WORCESTER-Theodossios D. "Ted" Lalos, 87, of Worcester died Sunday, May 1st in his home with his loving family at his side following a short illness.
He leaves his beloved wife, Despina (Kostopoulos) Lalos. The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on April 6th. He also leaves two sons, James T. Lalos and his wife, Kathy of Portsmouth, NH and Alexander T. Lalos, MD and his wife, Carolynn of Clark Summit, PA; a sister, Ephtihia Poulias of Holden, formerly of Worcester; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Stephanie and Christopher and several nephews and nieces.
Mr. Lalos was born in Giromeri, Epirus, Greece and served in the Greek Army during the reconstruction of Greece after the Second World War. He immigrated with his wife and members of his extended family to Worcester in 1954. From 1955 until 1973, he was employed by the Arduini Manufacturing Corporation as a sheet metal mechanic and draftsman. Mr. Lalos received an Associate’s Degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Junior College in 1964. In 1973, together with his late brother, Constantinos Lalos and Luigi Nardella, he co-founded American Fabricating Corporation of Auburn, a manufacturer of industrial sheet metal products, serving as its president until his retirement in 1989. In 1980, Mr. Lalos and his partners were recognized by then Governor Ed King for founding one of the fastest growing small businesses in Massachusetts.
In retirement, he divided his time between his homes in Worcester and in Athens, Greece and traveled the world extensively with his wife. An amateur videographer, he filmed, produced and hosted “My Travels”, a travelogue show, in continuous broadcast on WCCA TV13 since 1996, detailing his travels.
Mr. Lalos was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
The funeral is Wednesday, May 4th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 10:30 in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 3rd from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
