TEWKSBURY: Joanne E. Parkin-Batalis, age 51, a resident of Tewksbury for over 20 years, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at home, following a courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of Paul D. Batalis, with whom she celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary on June 18, 2010.
Born in Frankfort, Germany on April 7, 1960, she was the daughter of the late William and Hideko (Masuda) Parkin.
Joanne was raised in Woburn, attended Woburn schools and graduated from Woburn High School in 1978.
Joanne resided in Woburn and Burlington until moving to Tewksbury.
Prior to her illness, she was employed for 10 years by the Wal-Mart Company in Tewksbury.
Joanne enjoyed painting, knitting, traveling to Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester and Hampton Beach in New Hampshire.
Joanne will fondly be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.
In addition to her beloved husband, Joanne is survived by two daughters, Danielle L. and Rachel M. Batalis both of Tewksbury; three sisters, Carol A. Bergeron and her husband Kenneth of Woburn, Sally G. Clarenbach and her husband William of Bradford and Laura Tetrault of Tewksbury; one brother, James Anderson and his wife Diane of Florida; also many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 3, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. At the request of the family her funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854.
