Mrs. Joan C. Cervera, recently of Concord and a former longtime resident of Woburn passed away peacefully on April 29th, at the Gardens at Rivercrest in Concord following a short illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter D. Cervera. Born and raised in Belmont she was the daughter of the late James and Angela (Pellegrino) Piraino.
Joan was raised and educated in Belmont where her family resided on B Street and Joan and her five sisters would become known as "The B Street Girls" growing up throughout the years. Joan worked for fifty years as an executive secretary with the Simplex Wire & Cable Co. of Cambridge, a job she took great pride in. In her leisure time she enjoyed ballroom dancing and especially traditional Spanish dancing. She was an active resident for seven years at New Horizons in Woburn. She was also active at the Woburn Senior Center and was a member of the Seton Guild of St. Anthony Church.
Along with her late husband, Joan is preceded in death by her sisters, Antonette Murray, Thomasina Piraino, Anna Mazzuchelli, Stephanie Bregani and brothers Stephen and Vincent Piraino. She is lovingly survived by her sister, Carmela Nackley of Belmont, nineteen cherished nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews. She was also the greatest great great aunt.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Tuesday, May 3rd, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 thru 7 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Joan's memory to the Catholic Charities, 51 Sleeper St., Boston, MA 02210.
