Edith W. (Whittaker) Medland died at the Southeast Rehabilitation Center in Easton on Thursday, April 28, 2011. She was the wife of the late John A. Medland, Sr. She would have been 91 years old on May 3rd.
Edith was the daughter of the late Harry and Susan Whittaker. She grew up in Cambridge, MA, and was a 1938 graduate of Cambridge High and Latin. She was close to her brothers, the late Harry C. Whittaker and the late Gilbert Whittaker.
Edith was a resident of Lynnfield, MA, for close to 70 years and was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She loved her house on Pillings Pond where she raised her children, baked and gardened. She was known for her cookies at the church fairs and her tins of cookies at Christmas time. She was also a member of the Boston Y Outing Club and enjoyed many reunions over the years. She worked as a secretary at several companies, one being Tech Ops in Burlington, until her retirement.
She leaves her daughter, Marjorie S. Petrelli, and her husband, Ronald of Stoughton, MA: her grandchildren, Kimberly J. Medland of Washington, DC., David C. Petrelli of San Francisco, Laura S. Suwena and her husband, Wayan, of Walpole, MA: her great-grandchildren, Julianna M. and Kayla E. Suwena of Walpole, MA. She was the mother of the late John A. Medland, Jr.
She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Joan S. Medland of Houston, Texas, and several nieces and a nephew.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 127 Summer Street, Lynnfield, MA, on Saturday, May 21st, at 10:00 a.m. Donations in Edith’s memory may be made to The Home for Little Wanderers, 271 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.
