Betty Louise Milton Turner, 80 of Wayland, Massachusetts died Monday April 4, 2011 at Whitney Place in Natick. She was the beloved wife of the late George Samuel Turner. Betty and George were married on September 5, 1953 and were together for 57 years.
Born in Waltham, MA, Betty graduated from Waltham High School. Betty and George lived for more than 30 years on the sparkling shores of Lake Cochituate in Wayland where they raised three children, Susan, David and Paul. Betty always welcomed family, friends and a variety of pets with open arms. Supervisor of countless swimming, front yard camping and ice skating parties, there were always good times to be had at the Turner home with Betty in charge.
Betty pursued her professional career at Babson College for more than 20 years, retiring in 1995 as the Undergraduate Records Administrator. Betty was very active in the Babson Community, serving on several Babson committees including the All College Council and volunteering for campus activities throughout her tenure. Betty’s greatest joy was getting to know the students and would often invite international students to the Turner home for holidays and on family vacations when the campus was closed.
Together, Betty and George travelled throughout the US and Canada and ventured as far as China, Central America and Africa. Closer to home, Betty and George were members of the Fairs and Squares square dancing club and active participants in the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland. Betty volunteered each summer at the Church vacation bible school, participated in the adult bible study group and enjoyed working with other women from the church providing refreshments for social gatherings.
Betty is survived by her 3 children – Susan Turner Montgomery and her husband Tim of Frederick, Maryland, David George Turner and his wife Laura of Pasadena, California and Paul Milton Turner of Roxbury, Vermont; and by her brother, Roy Milton of Marlborough, Massachusetts.
A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on May 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 53 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA
