Obituary

Lidwina E. “Mom” Schierer age 95 of Metamora passed away at 8:29pm Tuesday April 26, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Born Sept. 23, 1915 in Worth Township, Illinois to George and Margaretha (Noel) Alig. She married Harvey Schierer on Oct. 11, 1939. He died Sept. 3, 1989.

Surviving is one son, Thomas E. (Earlene) Schierer of E. Peoria, IL. Four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Two half-brothers Anthony Nauman and Lambert (Joyce) Nauman all of Metamora, IL and two sister-in-laws Donna Nauman of Washington, Il and Patricia Nauman of Metamora. She was preceded in death by one daughter Bonnie (Jim) Ostrem of Ottawa, IL and one grandson, one sister, one brother and two half-brothers.

She worked for Dr. H.W. Riggert when he first opened his practice in Metamora in 1936. In 1953 she and her husband Harvey opened “Schierer’s Sundries” which ran until 1972. She then went to work at the Metamora Pharmacy until she retired in 1995. She was a honorary member of St. Mary’s Alter and Rosary Society, Charter member of Metamora Women’s Club and a volunteer at Snyder Village for many years.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am Friday April 29, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Metamora where she has been a member since 1939. Father Don Roszkowski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. At her request there will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Snyder Village or American Cancer Society.
