Obituary

Michael F. Mercogliano, 67 of Winthrop died on Tuesday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House Danvers. He is the beloved son of Michael Mercogliano of Saugus and the late Dora (Lancione) Mercogliano. Former husband of Helen (Mastone) Mercogliano of Mashpee.
Mr. Mercogliano was born in Boston, and attended local schools. He grew up working in the family business, “Mike’s Pastry” in the North End. He worked as a baker. He remained there for over 35 years. He decided to go out on his own in 1988 and opened “Michael’s Bakery” in Billerica. He kept that business until 2003. He then opened a bakery in Lynn, also known as “Michael’s Bakery” which he operated until his retirement.
Mike was a “do it yourself” kind of guy and demonstrated this skill often taking care of his boat the M&M which he kept docked at various times in the Constitution Marina in Charlestown and the Battery Wharf Marina in Boston.
Mr. Mercogliano loved animals and will be sadly missed by his dog Knight. When it wasn’t boating season here he enjoyed spending time at his condo in Pompano Beach FL. He was also a regular at several horse racing tracks and enjoyed a game of chance. In addition to his father, he is survived by a daughter, Monique Mercogliano-Battista and her husband Jay of Lynnfield. Dear brother of Diane Volch of NY and Phyllis DeNictolis of Boston's North End. Loving uncle of Maria & Jason Volch and Vincent DeNictolis. Interment services will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Road Medford on Friday at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, those who prefer may make contributions in Mike’s name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or The Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Liberty Street, Danvers MA. 01923.
