GLOUCESTER: Norma H. (Haugh) Spear, 100, formerly of Thurston Point Road, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 in the Golden Living Center. She was the wife of the late Arthur Spear, who died in July of 1999. They had shared sixty-four years of marriage.
Born in Quincy on August 29, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Martha N. and Adolph H. Haugh. She had attended the Northfield Seminary for Girls. She has resided in Gloucester since 1966.
Mrs. Spear enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, and knitting. An avid football fan, she followed Boston College and the New England Patriots. She was also an active volunteer for many years at the Addison Gilbert Hospital. One of her favorite pastimes was watching the boats pass by her home on the Annisquam River.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan J. and John F. Russo of Reading; son and daughter-in-law, Peter A. and Joann T. Spear of Palm Bay, FL; four grandchildren, Eric M. Spear of Gloucester, Dana J. Spear, husband of Christine Chaffin-Spear of Melbourne, FL, Andrea S., wife of John J. Tieso of Charlotte, VT and Gregory C. Russo of Reading; eight great-grandchildren, Sage, Bryson, Kathryn, Noah and Amber of Melbourne, FL, Madison, Brandon and Andrew of Charlotte, VT; cousins, Barbara Rimbach of Cambridge and Ursula Keleher of Charlestown; and many dear friends including, Natalie C. Daley of Gloucester.
Her funeral service will be held privately in the Seaside Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Golden Living Center Resident Council Fund, 272 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
