Laconia-Charles J. Root, 89, of 194 Gilford Avenue, died at his home on Monday, April 25, 2011.
Mr. Root was born June 16, 1921 in Northfield, N.H., the son of Lena A. (Buffington) and Alexander E. Root, Sr. and had lived most of his life in Laconia.
Mr. Root was a graduate of Tilton Prep School, Tilton, N.H. and had served in the U. S. Army during WWII.
Mr. Root had been employed at Peerless Aluminum Foundry in Bridgeport, Conn., Hamilton Standard, formerly known as United Air Craft, and Combustion Engineering both in Windsor Locks, Conn., and retired from Bergen- Paterson, Laconia in 1982.
Mr. Root was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks # 876, a member of the American Legion, Wilkins-Smith Post #1 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Laconia Post #1670.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Irene A. (Chabot) Root, of Laconia; a daughter, Camille Kimball, and her husband, John, of Laconia; three grandchildren, Curtis, Heather and Paul; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Althea Sevigny, of Laconia, and many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Mr. Root was predeceased by a brother, Alexander E. Root, Jr., and a sister, Doris Yardley
There will be no calling hours.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 10:00a.m. at the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia.
