Obituary

New Bedford - Wallace D."Papa Smurf" Britto, 55, of New Bedford died Saturday, January 17, 2004 at home. He is survived by his parents Joseph L. and Adeline (Fortes) Britto of New Bedford. He is also survived by four sons: Wallace J., Jeffrey E. and Paul M. Britto all of New Bedford and Russell Enos of Rotunda, Florida, 7 daughters: Tyree Ware of Cleveland, Ohio, Candi White of Mansfield, Texas, Chyla A., Jennifer J., Stephanie L., Samantha L., and Yolanda Britto all of New Bedford; two brothers: Alan J. Britto and Romeo D. Britto both of New Bedford and two sisters Bonita M. Pina and Bernice G. Diaz both of New Bedford and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Britto was also father of the late Christopher S. Britto and brother of the late Curtis S. Britto.

Mr. Britto was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of his life. He was a carpenter by trade. Mr. Britto was a U.S.Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War.He was member of the Disabled Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Andrew Dahill Post, the Cape Verdean Veterans. Mr. Britto was an artist, he enjoyed painting and drawing. He also coached Little League Baseball at Dias Field. He also liked to collect sports cards, play pool, play "Hi"-"Low"-"Jack"(cards) and play bingo at Foxwoods .

His funeral will be Thursday January 21, 2004 from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 A.M. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours are Wednesday January 21st from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
