Charles L. Morello of Medford, who was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in the Pacific Theatre in World War Two, died on Easter Sunday, April 24th. He was 90 years old.
Born in Boston to parents who had emigrated to America from Italy, Charles grew up in the city’s West End. He also resided in the South End before moving to Medford.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army and spent three years in the Pacific Theatre, rising to the rank of Sergeant where he earned a Bronze Star and three army service ribbons.
After the war, he married Katharine Sliby in 1947. Settling in Medford, they raised daughters Anne and Karyn. Charles worked very hard to provide for his family and became very successful as an independent restauranteur in and around the Boston area.
Charles and his family summered in Salem, New Hampshire. He was an avid race horse enthusiast and enjoyed watersports, boating, and, not surprisingly, cooking. The family also had a residence in Dania Beach, Florida. Said his daughter Anne: “Poppie had a real zest for life and loved to be with young people. It’s hard to imagine a world without him.” He will be remembered by his family for his positive attitude in life.
He leaves 2 daughters, Anne Davis of Newton and Karyn Scitarelli of Acton; Sons-in law Jim Davis and Vincent Scitarelli; grandchildren Kassia Davis of Boston, Chris Davis of Boston and Isabella Scitarelli of Acton; and close friend and companion Jane Dwyer of Salem, NH.
