Mr. Americo Colella, of Medford passed away April 24th, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford following a lengthy illness. He was 89 years of age. Born in Boston he was the son of the late Angelo and Grace (DeSantis) Colella. He was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Casiello) Colella.
Mr. Colella was raised and educated in Boston's North End. He was a proud United States Army Veteran of WWII and honorably served his country from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Colella was a retired truck driver in the produce industry where he worked for many years. In his liesure time he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Prior to the death of his wife, Phyllis, together they enjoyed dancing and traveling. He also enjoyed playing cards, painting and working on jigsaw puzzles.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Colella is predeceased by his brother Pat Colella, and sisters, Lena Addolino, Mary Freni, Emma Giovanditto, and Angela Jones. He is survived by his children, Donna Mattuchio and her husband Al of Medford, Steven Colella and his wife Jane of Leominster, Phyllis Connell and her husband Michael of Ayer, and Michael Colella of Medford. He is also survived by six loving grandchildren and two loving great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother Carmine Colella of Somerville.
Funeral from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Thursday, April 28th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St. Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday from 5 thru 9 PM. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
