Obituary

James Markham, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Friday, April 22, 2011, at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.

Memorial services were held 2 P.M., Saturday, April 30, at the Chapel of First Baptist Church, with Dr.Mike Ruffin officiating. Music was provided by Elaine Markham, flutist and Marty Smith, organist.

Mr. Markham was born January 6, 1922 in Sheffield, England to the late James and Elizabeth Hoyland Markham. During World War II he served in the Royal Engineers. Moving to the United States in 1950, he was a finish carpenter with Apgar and Markham Construction Company in Miami, Florida. During his life, he also lived in Cocoa Beach, FL, Jacksonville, FL, Miami, FL, Palm Coast, FL, and Fulton, MO. He moved back to Fitzgerald seven years ago and attended First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.

He is survived by daughters: Michele & Bill Langham of Miami, FL and Elaine Markham & Steve Stewart of Fitzgerald; sister, Stella M. Sheffield of Fitzgerald and brother, Ronald & Jean Markham of Minneapolis, Minnesota, grandchildren: William and James Langham, Shawn, Daniel, Heather, Casey, Destiny and Jonathan. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ernestine Wainwright Markham.
