Jerry Hinst, 93, of Fitzgerald died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Harris House.
Funeral services will be held 9 AM Tuesday, April 29, 2011, at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stan Christian officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Hinst was born February 12, 1918 in Fitzgerald to the late Gerald Vaughn and Lizzie Neal Corley Myrick. She was a Colony City infant. Her grandparents were H.S. Fisher, D.C. Myrick and James A. Tripp, early Fitzgerald colonists. She studied nursing at Stetson College, Deland, FL and Daytona Beach Community College. Mrs. Hinst was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Ga. Society of the Mayflower, the Colonial Dames, 17th Century, a Charter member of “First Families of Georgia” and was Past Chapter Registrar of Nathaniel Abney, NSDAR. Mrs. Hinst was a homemaker and served her community where she lived. She served in the American Red Cross, Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Aurora, CO at the close of WW II. When Mrs. Hinst was in Fla. she served on the Election Board, was a Mental Health Association volunteer, and was in geriatric health home care. Between 1959-1964 she was a volunteer with a research staff to oppose the relocation of the Volusia Co., FL Court House.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Col. Steven W. & Virginia Hinst of Titusville, FL; Granddaughter & husband, Mari and Zach Hinst, Great Granddaughter, Celestrial Hinst
