Mamie Riley Grimes, age 94, died Friday, April 22, 2011 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, she had been in declining health for 12 years.
Born March 12, 1917 to the late Thomas Frank Riley, Jr. and Estelle Hall Riley, she lived all of her life in Danville. She worked in Dan River Mills spinning room for 25 years. She was married to Buster Lee Grimes, who predeceased her. She began to decline in health March of 1999. She was the last member of her family. Mrs. Grimes was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one daughter: Betty Grimes Hilton and husband James of Danville; two sons: Garland “Gene” Grimes and wife Lelia of Axton, VA and Kenneth F. Grimes of Wisconsin; one daughter-in-law: Ruby Grimes; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by one son: Harry L. Grimes.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 24, 2011 at 2 pm graveside. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. Family will be receiving friends Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Swicegood Chapel from 7-8:30 pm. At other times the family will receive friends at the daughters home, 127 London Drive.
