Obituary

In Taunton, April 20, 2011 Michael J. Pagliuca, age 64 passed away in Morton Hospital after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Jean (Beaulieu) Pagliuca of Taunton. Michael was born in Taunton to his late parents Pasguale & Beatrice (Vincent) Pagliuca. Michael was educated in Taunton schools, and attended Johnson & Wales College & R.I. College. He voluntarily served his country during Vietnam in the U.S. Navy. Michael worked as a Senior EM Designer at Foxboro Co. for 37 years, later working at B.J’s Wholesale Club for 5 years. He was a member of the PACC, Italian Social Club, Fox’s Den Camping Club, Greater Taunton Amateur Baseball Association (GTABUA). Michael enjoyed salt water fishing, camping, umpiring, gambling, traveling and spending time with his family. Michael began in 1977 as a baseball coach for over ten years. In 1979 became certified at the Little League Umpire School in Williamsport, PA. He then became a certified LL umpiring instructor in 1982 and began teaching the craft that he loved doing ever since. Michael is a past president of the Taunton West Little League as well as an umpire chief at Taunton West Little League, Taunton Babe Ruth and Senior Babe Ruth as well as numerous other leagues in the area. He was responsible for the beginning of the Greater Taunton Amateur Baseball Umpires Association. GTABUA has grown to as many as 100 umpires and 800 to 1000 games umpired each season. Besides his wife, Michael is survived by his sons; David Pagliuca and his wife Mary-Jo and Jeffrey Pagliuca & his wife Renee all of Taunton. His grandchildren; Jordan, Jillian, Jocelyn, Isiah and Davelyn. His brother Francis Pagliuca of Taunton and the late Patricia Pagliuca. Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton. Funeral services are private at the request of the family, a celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a future date. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made to the; Mike Pagliuca Umpire’s Fund, Webster Bank, C/O Mike Pagliuca Umpires Fund, 2 Washington St. Taunton, MA.
