Obituary

Second Lieutenant Peter Alexander Sohm was killed in a small airplane crash outside of San Angelo, Texas on April 17, 2011. He was 23 years old. Peter was flying in a Christen Eagle II single engine airplane with his best friend and fellow Lieutenant, John T. Rice of North Dakota, who also perished. Lieutenants Sohm and Rice met during their first year at the United States Air Force Academy and were both members of the graduating class of 2010. A private pilot since age 16, Peter flew extensively during his years at the Academy; both he and John were described as being highly experienced and talented pilots.
Peter was born and raised in Londonderry, and was a graduate of Londonderry High School. He was active in his school, church and community and is remembered for his love for family, faith, friends and country. He is survived by his parents, Evan and Mary Sohm of Londonderry, New Hampshire; sisters Sara and Katherine Sohm; his maternal grandmother, Violet Mirabello of Staten Island, NY; many close aunts, uncles and cousins; and his girlfriend Lieutenant Mallory Morgan of Parker, Texas.
Calling hours were held at the Peabody Funeral Homes, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, on Monday, April 25, 2011 from 3:00 – 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, corner of Mammoth Rd. and South Rd., Londonderry on Tuesday at 10:30am. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers, the family has established the “Peter A. Sohm Memorial Trust” for the purpose of helping military families in need, and is requesting that checks may be made out and sent as follows: “Peter A. Sohm Memorial Trust”, P.O.
