Laura "Larry" (Duarte) Michaels, 75, of New Bedford died Sunday April 17, 2011 at home after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Frank Duarte and Henrietta (Pina) Duarte Montrond, she lived in New Bedford for all of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Michaels was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for the New Bedford Public School Department for 25 years until her retirement.
She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kinyon-Campbell Business School. She was an avid reader.
Survivors include three children, Glenn Rosa of New Bedford, Michelle Rosa Fakhouri of California, and Robin Michaels of New Bedford; a brother, Cezar Duarte of New Bedford; a sister, Mildred Duarte Fernandes of New Bedford; a cousin Emily Ramos Gomes of New Bedford; and two grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Kathleen Michaels and the sister of the late Frank "Pee Wee" Duarte.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Visiting hours are omitted.
