George Robert Light, age 84, of 689 Oak Hill Road, Danville, died Monday, April 18, 2011 in Duke University Medical Center.
Born September 29, 1926 in Danville, he was the son of the late Robert F. Light and Eula May Light. He was a truck driver for 24 years, working with Fleming Transfer and Branch Trucking. Mr. Light enjoyed bingo and Chicago Cubs baseball. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife: Corrine D. Light of the home; one daughter: Joanne Matthews Brown of Eden, NC; one son: Michael W. Light of Danville; one sister: Juanita Venable of California; three grandsons: Thomas R. Matthews, Michael S. Light, and Jason A. Light; one great-grandson: Michael Nicholas Light. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Clara Pippin and Nancy Newnam.
Funeral services officiated by Dr. Charles Scearce will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the graveside in Danville Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
