David N. Chatfield, of Mattapoisett, MA, died unexpectedly on April 19, 2011, at the age of 86. He was the loving husband of Judy (Martin) Chatfield.
Born July 28, 1924, in Waterbury, he was the son of the late John and Myrtle (Carley) Chatfield. He lived in Prospect most of his life before retiring to Mattapoisett 20 years ago.
David served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from Waterbury Rolling Mills after many years of employment. In his retirement, he enjoyed working at Highland Greens golf course and Davis Corporation.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Larry Chatfield, and his companion, Susan Carnell, of Middletown; a daughter, Norma Jean Chatfield, of Middletown; a stepson, John Mancinelli, of Bridgeport; a stepdaughter, Sarah Morgen, of Williamsburg, VA; two grandsons, Zachary and Rhys; two sisters, Arrol Drew, of Wallingford and Judy Fiengo, of Prospect; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. David was pre-deceased by three brothers and three sisters.
A service will be held at Prospect Congregational Church (located at 25 Center St., Prospect) on Saturday, April 30, at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Prospect Cemetery. Attendees are invited to a gathering at the Prospect Firehouse immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department or the Coalition of Buzzards Bay, New Bedford, MA.
