Obituary

John H. Halliwell, Jr., 84, of Westport died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, son of the late John H. Halliwell, Sr. and the late Mildred A. (Sharples) Halliwell, he had summered in Westport for over 40 years prior to becoming a permanent resident.

A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Army. Prior to retirement, he was the band director of Hope High School in Providence for 15 years until taking the position of band director at Seekonk Elementary School for 17 years. Mr. Halliwell served as band director for the Shriners of Cranston, R.I., a member of the Masons, the Westport Yacht Club and former president of Hiddenbrook Radio Control Club, of Westport. He also enjoyed boating and fishing.

Survivors include a son: Mark A. Halliwell of Westport; 3 daughters: Robin M. Anderson of Seekonk, Hollie S. Halliwell of Fall River; Kimberly A. Lynch of N. Attleboro; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an organization very close to Mr. Halliwell, where his grandson was treated for cancer: The Tomorrow Fund, Rhode Island Campus, 593 Eddy St., Providence, RI 02903.
