Obituary

Walter Correia, 84, of New Port Richey, FL died April 17, 2011 at HPH Hospice. He was the husband of Stephanie (dos Santos) Correia.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Henrique and Margarida (Lopes) Correia, he lived in New Bedford most of his life before moving to Florida.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Correia was formerly employed as a business agent for the Roofers and Waterproofers Local Union.
He was a member of the Cape Verdean American Veterans Association, the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club and an original member of the Cape Verdean Recognition Committee. He enjoyed movies, dancing, boxing and watching television.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ricardo of FL, Barry of RI, and Randy of New Bedford; three daughters, Carol Ross and Valerie Calderon, both of FL, and Terri Green of Marion; a brother, Joseph of New Bedford; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Tuesday, April 26th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, April 25th from 3-7 PM. Flowers are to be sent by immediately family only.
