TEWKSBURY - Evelyn R. ( Ferraioli) Hamel, age 93, died Saturday evening, April 16, at the Sunny Acres Nursing Care Center in Chelmsford, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Joseph L. Hamel, who died in 1992.
She was born in East Boston, February 9, 1918, one of six children of the late Louis and Antionette (Scaramella) Ferraioli, and was raised in Medford. She lived in Arlington before returning to Medford where she lived the greater part of her life. She retired to Tewksbury in 1997.
She was employed as a clerk at the Massachusetts, Department of Employment Security until her retirement in 1981.
As a resident of Medford she was a communicant of St. James Church, and later St. William's Parish in Tewksbury. Since moving to Tewksbury, she became active at the Tewksbury Senior Center, and was a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club. She was also a member of Medford's "Forever Young Club."
She was predeceased by her siblings, Salvatore Ferraioli, Doris Nadeau, Arthur Ferraioli, Lillian Ferraioli, and Rev. Fr. Ralph Ferraioli; and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 20, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burialwas in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
